Su Carburettors Manual
Jaguar Mark 2 - twin HS8 SU Carburettors with manual choke conversion This video shows the installation of twin HS8 SU Carburettors on a standard Jaguar Mark 2 inlet manifold. The HS8 carbs came from a Jaguar XJ6 Series 1. The XJ6 was fitted with an AED unit to provide extra fuel for cold starting. These AED units were highly unreliable and inefficient in shutting off when the engine had reached running temperature, leading to excessively high fuel use.

My preference was to use the HS8 carbs, instead of the Jaguar 420 HD8 carbs with electric choke or Jaguar XJ6 Series 2 HIF44 SU carbs with AED units, because they are the easiest to adapt for manual choke operation. I copied the choke lever set-up and operation found on the original Jaguar Mark 2 HS6 carburettors, which involves a choke cable pulling on levers linked to the main jets and pulling the jets down to allow a dose of extra fuel to help start a cold engine. I took the choke operating mechanism from a Rover TC2000 HS8 twin carb set-up as this was the easiest to install between the Jaguar XJ6 HS8 carbs, since both set-ups appear to have the same carb centre-to-carb centre distance on their respective intake manifolds (about 8 1/4').
