So, I am still on the search for a used 8V92 to replace the current, broken one in my bus. The winter blues have started to kick in, and I have been feeling bummed about looking at the bus just sitting there in a heap of snow, not really doing anything, so I figured: Well, the engine is going to have to come out sooner or later, I might as well just pull it out now!

The good news is that I have found a really nice shop space to rent for my bus while I do this work. It's pretty cheap, so I don't have to worry about time limitations here, and I will be renting it with another friend with a bus, who is also doing an engine swap. He has a bus with an 8V71 engine. So, after months and months of playing phone and email tag with the bus company that I purchased my bus from, I finally got ahold of the manuals.

Well, only the Prevost manual. I do not have a copy of the engine manual. I found out where I can purchase one. $400 for the thing, and then another $85 for the DDEC2 troubleshooting guide. That's more than 3 months rent for the shop. My friend with the 8V71 manual copied the entire thing onto a CD for me, which is great, but.

Wrong engine. So, here is my question: (and hopefully some of you DD guys out there can help me out!) While I am saving my pennies to get the correct engine manual, how far can I get with just using the 8V71 manual?

How similar are these two engines? (I realize the major differences, wet sleeve/dry sleeve etc.) Any feedback on this would be great, or recommendations for a better (cheaper!) place to purchase the manuals from. I'm still waiting for my new job to start paying me back for all of the time, effort, and resources that I put into starting up.

(Damn economy!) Thanks, all! -Anja here's a camera phone pic just for fun. DO NOT torque to spec (can't rember) then an additional 90 degrees. Was that from a genuine DD manual? I'm sure our manuals just stated the standard 3 step up to 230 or whatever the max is which is the way we always torqued them. Speaking of, GoneFishen, since you work at an authorized dealership, what's the proper thing to use to hold the outer quad ring in place? (the one that goes around the outer edge of the block surface) We always used a bit of 3M Weatherstrip Cement at all four corners to retain it.

I used paper matchsticks to hold the perimeter seal in place. There is a 'torque turn on the 92 bolts but I never used it. 230 will get the job done. Has for over 30 years on that engine. All the torques for the head accessories are the same. Blower bolts ect.

Gear train bolts backing plate ect. The most difference is the head bolts as mentioned and above all listen up NOW. Yes right NOW. There are 2 different torques on the main caps. I never could get DDC to confirm any change in this. If your main caps are marked 'AM' then use the torque-turn method.

If no markings use 240 torque on the mains. 55 on the stabalizer bolts. 95 F250,XLT, 4WD, Auto Trans, bbshimmed, synthetic trans oil,4:10 gears,Truck Trunk,Nerf Bars, crome Mud flaps, Aux. Thanks, all! -Anja here's a camera phone pic just for fun: I thought the only difference between the 8v71 and the 8v92 would be cylinder size. I have an international paystar 5000 gravel truck with a 8v92 and i want an engine manual as well. Hard to find i think.

Let me know if you find one. Thanks please email me thank you.
