Hey guys, new here and needing some help. I've been browsing the forum for a few weeks and it's a great site yal seem to have alot of good info so I'm hoping yal can help!
I have a New Holland 650 Baler it's been sitting up for a couple years because we payed someone to bale for us using their equipment the last couple years. Well we're back to baling ourselves and dad just said the baler needs to be fixed. Here's the problem, It keeps busting the 'pickup drive chain' as Im gonna call it b/c im not sure of the correct term.

Its my first time tearing into this thing. I put a new masterlink on the chain got it back ready to go, it will roll the first bale good and tight, spits it out no problems.
Get to the second bale and that same chain breaks. It's broken 3 times in a row like that. With that pickup drive chain off I engaged the PTO and checked out everything else to see if something else could be causing the problem. Everything seems to be running fine.

This may be an easy fix and I've overlooked something like I said this is my first time gettin into this thing but I really appreciate any help!! Man, despite his artistic pretensions, his sophistication and his many accomplishments, owes his existence to a 6-inch layer of topsoil and the fact that it rains. Anonymous The soil is a result purely of broken weathered rock bits. Over the years fauna and then flora have died and broken down in it and lived in that mess to create what we have now. A handful contains the remains of billions, feces urine and the stuff that grows and lives therein.
The rain just mixes it up a bit with the air. I agree that it sounds like the problem is in the pick-up somewhere. I've had to replace rollers before as shown above and also have lost bolts holding the tine mount arms on that have caused binding. Both are easy fixes if that is your problem. The rollers are kind of spendy though at $25 each (3 needed) and if one is bad it's just a matter of time before the others go out so you might as well replace them all at the same time. Check the left side of the pick-up that will probably be where the problem is.
Hey guys, back with an update, sorry if it seemed I ran off after I got help! Here's the deal. The chain breaking issue was happening to my dad couple years back so he put it up in the shop, and got one of the guys that worked for us to pull it apart and try and sort it out, he got puzzled and left it alone.

So I was going off of his information. I got the baler out, put a new masterlink on the chain that kept breaking, greased everything, checked the tension on everything took her out for try and everything seems to be good, we baled 30 bales with it yesterday, ran into other problems due to being in a rush before rain and hay still being wet, just took us a little longer but we got our smallest hay patch baled. But the chain breaking problem was non existent this time! Hopefully whatever the problem was worked itself out and is solved for good. Atleast for this season!
Appreciate all the help!
